Young Riders Advocacy and Outreach Programs

"Everybody needs a bike."

Young Riders Putreach Program
The Young Riders is more than just a youth cycling program. It is a concerned member of the community. So it is our mission to help those in the area through cycling.

In 2006, Young Riders started to work with the growing Hispanic culture in the area. We worked with the McPolin Summer School program and St. Mary's Church, to instate an after school mountain bike program focused on the Hispanic children. Through a grant from the Underdog Foundation, Young Riders purchased 10 TREK bicycles, and provided them to the class. During a five-week program, 43 children were able to participate at least once.

In 2007, Young Riders is giving away the 10 TREK bicycles to the participants of a seasonal Hispanic class. There are two classes, one for 8-9 year olds, while the next is for 10-11 year olds. Each class meets once a week for the entire summer, from 9-11am. We are hoping to reach 25 students.

The Young Riders program also is working in other cycling related areas as well. We participate in over 100 hours of trail work services throughout the Summit and Wasatch county area, work on highway cleanup projects and volunteer at several key Park City community events.

If you would like more information on any of the above programs, please feel free to contact Heinrich at hdeters@youngriders.com
